Frequently Asked Questions
A freestanding bath stands independently in the room with all four sides exposed — it makes a strong design statement and works best in larger bathrooms where it can be seen from all angles. A built-in (or alcove) bath is set into a recess between three walls with a side panel, making it far more space-efficient and practical for smaller bathrooms. Built-in baths are also easier to pair with an overhead shower.
Acrylic baths are lightweight, affordable, and warm to the touch — the surface heats up quickly and retains warmth reasonably well. They're the most common material and suit most budgets. Stone resin (also called solid surface or composite) baths are significantly heavier, more rigid, and have a premium matte finish. They retain heat better than acrylic and feel far more substantial, but come at a higher price point.
A double-ended bath has a central drain and symmetrical sloped ends, so two people can recline comfortably from either end. They're almost always freestanding and are a popular choice for larger bathrooms or as a luxury centrepiece. Single-ended baths have the drain at one end and one sloped back for a single bather to recline against.
A back-to-wall bath sits flush against the wall on one side, with the remaining sides exposed. It gives a similar visual effect to a freestanding bath but uses less floor space and allows for easier plumbing concealment behind the wall. Freestanding baths sit completely independently, with pipework either running through the floor or via exposed floor-standing tap legs. Back-to-wall suits those who want the look of freestanding without sacrificing as much space.
For acrylic baths, use a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft cloth — abrasive pads can scratch and dull the surface. Stone resin baths are more scratch-resistant but should still be cleaned with mild, non-acidic products. Avoid bleach on coloured or matte surfaces. Rinse the bath after each use and dry the surface periodically to prevent limescale buildup, especially in hard water areas.
