Placement and Height - Getting It Right

This is where most people underestimate the difference between a good install and an awkward one.

• Height: The Australian standard recommendation for toilet roll holder height is approximately 600mm to 700mm from the finished floor level, measured to the centre of the roll. This positions the holder within comfortable reach from a seated position.
• Side: The holder is typically installed on the side of the dominant hand - most commonly the right side. In practice, install it on whichever side has the most accessible wall space without the holder sitting behind or too close to the door or vanity.
• Distance from the toilet: Around 150mm to 200mm forward of the front edge of the pan is the most comfortable position. Too far back and it requires twisting; too far forward and it intrudes on leg space.
• From the wall: Wall-mounted holders should allow the roll to dispense freely without rubbing the wall surface. Allow at least 50mm of clearance between the outer edge of the holder arm and the wall.
